Ice Hockey: Snowden, Pocco lead Oxford rout against Newark

NEWARK, Del. — Oxford sophomore goalie Ryan Snowden had a shutout on Friday night, including four saves in the last minute to preserve the goose egg and secure the 7-0 win for over Newark in a divisional match-up at the Pond.

“We were trying to get a lot of practice passing it around and give some guys who maybe don’t have any goals a chance to score” said Oxford head coach Harry Giovan of the game plan against the short-handed Newark team.

Newark dealt with an extremely light bench. In fact, they only had one sub.

Despite tired legs and constant pressure, Yellowjackets goaltender Ben Hemrick stopped 26 of 33 shots, many of which were rebounds in quality scoring chances.

“In our tougher games like last week when we played Avon Grove, we had to take the more inexperienced guys and play them a little less, but tonight we got to play them more. We got to mix it up,” Giovan said.
