Boys Ice Hockey All-Area Teams

First Team

Brett Christie (Candice Monhollan)

Brett Christie (Candice Monhollan)

Forwards
Brett Christie (West Chester Rustin, Jr.): Christie is just — to put it blunt — an incredible and lethal player. He may have not have scored as many points as the year before (only 43 to 37, excluding the Flyers Cup tournament), but that doesn’t mean he was less deadly. He tallied 21 goals and 16 assists in 18 games. He was also very clutch in the playoffs, scoring both goals in Rustin’s two overtime games and he notched the game-winner in the state championship game.

Jarrett Slear (West Chester Henderson, Jr.): Slear had a big coming out party this season. He showed signs of how good he could be the year before, but with players such as Eric Carreras and Kyle Wicka on the team, it was easy to be a little overshadowed. Not anymore. This year, he led his team in goals (24) and points (45).

Joseph Moran (Bishop Shanahan, Sr.): Moran had a huge season, surpassing his career high if 27 goals in his sophomore year with 34 this year. No one in the area had more goal than he did this season — the closest being 10 goals away. Though his point total of 37 didn’t quite reach his best, it still was a good season for the senior to go out on.

Defensemen
Kevin Cleary (West Chester East, Jr.): Cleary didn’t just break his previous highs in goals, assists and points — he smashed them. He finished the season with 10 goals and 22 assists, beating previous highs of three goals and 15 assists.

Ryan Hassiepen (Avon Grove, Jr.): Hassiepen may have led all defensemen on Avon Grove last season in points with 18, but he blew that away this year as he did it again, this time with 27 points — in four less games, to top it off. No other defenseman on the team came close to topping his numbers and he still has another season left.

Goaltender
Jason Grande (West Chester Rustin, So.): Just a sophomore, Grande already has a Ches-Mont title, two Flyers Cup titles and two state titles in his collection.  He may have a good defense in front of him, but when the time comes to make a save, Grande is always ready. That’s why he can lead the league with a 14-3-4 record, a 1.57 goals-against average and .926 save percentage.
